
St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston was recognized as one of the Alamo Colleges District’s 80 Champions of Opportunity as part of its 80th anniversary celebration.
Dr. Loston has distinguished herself as the district’s top donor for eleven consecutive years, reflecting a commitment to leading through example. The recognition highlights individuals who have advanced access to education, social mobility, workforce development, and community empowerment.
The tradition of giving at St. Philip’s College dates back to its founding President, Saint Artemisia Brown, who sustained the institution in its early years through extensive fundraising efforts.
Dr. Loston was recognized for embodying several Champion of Opportunity attributes, including serving as an Ambassador of Opportunity, representing the districts mission and values; a Storyteller and Advocate, amplifying the impact of educational access; a Community Connector, strengthening relationships between the district and the community; and an Active Participator, providing mentorship and leadership through service.
In 2021, Dr. Loston was honored as one of The Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders by the HBCU Campaign Fund. She was recognized for her prominent and influential leadership at an HBCU/MSI, exemplifying the vision, character, and commitment necessary to effectively advancing an institution and position it for sustained growth and success.
