The HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF), a minority educational organization, kicked off its 7th Annual HBCU Football and Recruitment Tour last month in Montgomery at Alabama State’s Labor Day Classic contest against Southern University. Following the Labor Day Classic, the tour made its first appearance at the Boeing Red Tails Classic at Cramton Bowl, which featured Tuskegee University and Fort Valley State University. It continued to the Southern Heritage Classic, KIPP Memphis Collegiate High School’s College and Career Fair, and the Circle City Classic, when the Division of College Relations and Scholarships joined the tour to participate in the college and career fair events.
The Division of College Relations and Scholarships at HCF partners with HBCUs and MSIs to assist with recruiting high school students to those institutions and providing scholarships. Representatives present and encourage students to attend HBCUs and choose the institution that best fits their desired field of study. During the college and career fair events, students are welcome to pick up informational folders created for their benefit and any information provided by our partner institutions to help them transition into college.

In October and November, the Annual HBCU Football and Recruitment Tour will appear at the Gulf Coast Challenge, MVSU Homecoming game, Magic City Classic, Fountain City Classic, Soul Bowl Classic, Turkey Day Classic, and Bayou Classic. The tour will end at the 2023 SWAC Football Championship game on Saturday, December 2nd.

In June, HCF Founder, President & CEO Demetrius Johnson Jr. and nomination committee unanimously named Southern Heritage Classic founder Fred Jones Jr. to the seventh class of The Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders of 2024. The selection makes Jones the first HBCU sports-affiliated person to be honored and inducted into the prestigious national recognition. See Demetrius and Fred pictured below at the 34th Annual Southern Heritage Classic presented by FedEx at Simmons Banks Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis.
