Leadership transitions represents some of the most significant moments in the life of any college or university. For Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and institutions committed to expanding educational opportunity, the appointment of a new president or chancellor often signals the beginning of a new chapter by innovation, strategic growth, and renewed purpose.

At the HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF), we believe visionary leadership is essential to the future of higher education. Presidents and chancellors are responsible for guiding institutions through evolving challenges while advancing student success, strengthening partnerships, expanding opportunities, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

That is why HCF remains committed to championing leaders who are helping shape the future of higher education.

Recent examples include the appointment of Dr. Ayanna Howard as the 12th President of Spelman College and Dr. Denise Jones Gregory as the 14th President of Jackson State University. HCF has also celebrated the leadership of Dr. Jermaine Whirl at Savannah State University and Dr. Robert Scott at Albany State University — leaders whose vision and commitment continue to strengthen their institutions and expand opportunities for students.

For HCF, supporting leadership means supporting institutional success. Visionary leaders create pathways for innovation, strengthen enrollment and student outcomes, secure critical resources, and position their institutions to thrive in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.

This commitment is also reflected through initiatives such as The Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders Award and Class, which honors leaders who exemplify excellence, influence, service, and transformational leadership.

As colleges and universities continue to navigate the future, HCF remains dedicated to celebrating and supporting presidents and chancellors whose leadership is helping shape stronger institutions, empower students, and advance the mission of higher education.

Leadership matters. Vision matters. And when visionary leader succeed, students, institution, and communities thrive.
