During Community College Month, the HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) recognizes institutions like Shorter College, which is nationally recognized as one of the twelve nation’s Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs).

As the only private HBCU junior college, Shorter College is a private, faith-based, two-year liberal arts college located in North Littler Rock, Arkansas. Founded in 1886 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Shorter College’s open enrollment policy makes obtaining an associate’s level degree possible for any person having earned a high school diploma or GED completion from an accredited agency. Small, intimate classroom settings and an outstanding faculty create an enjoyable and supportive atmosphere for learning that empowers students to excel towards the pursuit of academic excellence.

Dr. Jeffery Norfleet, 46th President of Shorter College

College presidents like Dr. Jeffery Norfleet, who was named as the 46th president of Shorter in September 2024 remind us why the College is the #BestDecisionEver.

“As an open-enrollment, second-chance institution, Shorter welcomes learners from all backgrounds, including those who may have faced academic, personal, or societal obstacles. Students benefit from small class sizes, personalized support, and a holistic approach to education that prepares them for success in both academic and workforce settings. In addition, Shorter is proud to serve justice-impacted individuals through its Prison Education and ANCHOR Reentry Programs, offering incarcerated and returning citizens the tools to transform their lives through education.”

Shorter College continues to provide accessible, affordable and high-quality education for students to accomplish their academic goals by offering programs that meet students where they are and take them where they need to go. For more about Shorter College, visit www.shortercollege.edu.
