The HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) is celebrating Louisiana’s Legislature for its support of higher education in the upcoming 2026 fiscal budget. The state has allocated a substantial amount of $610 million to enhance college campuses, while another $75 million will be dedicated to research, campus security, and other specialized projects.

The state’s Board of Regents, which oversees policies and funding for Louisiana’s universities, community colleges, and vocational-technical colleges, coordinated this move.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), such as the Southern University System, which comprises five campuses, will receive approximately $144 million. This funding will be utilized to establish a new STEM complex on the main campus in Baton Rouge.

“Thank you to the Louisiana Legislature and Governor Landry for supporting our higher education budget and maintaining stable funding for FY26,” said Misti S. Cordell, Louisiana Board of Regents Chair. “From our education-to-employment alignment to expanding TOPS and funding additional deferred maintenance needs, much was accomplished to support our students and improve our institutions. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with state leadership as we develop talent so that Louisiana prospers.”

“We join the Louisiana Board of Regents in expressing our gratitude to Governor Landry and the Louisiana Legislature for their unwavering support and substantial investment in higher education. This pivotal step is essential to ensure that Louisiana universities, particularly HBCUs, remain at the forefront of creating more opportunities for students within the state and beyond. We also commend the Louisiana Board of Regents for their unwavering dedication to collaborating diligently with lawmakers and key stakeholders. Furthermore, we applaud the presidents of our HBCU institutions in Louisiana for their steadfast commitment to ensuring that expanding access and opportunities are paramount. We eagerly anticipate the emergence of the next generation of leaders who will benefit from the allocated resources.”
