HCF calls for NC State Government to Expedite Approval of 50 Plus 1 Sports Deal to Secure Financial Sustainability for Saint Augustine’s University

HCF calls NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson and NC Governor Joshua Stein to seek immediate full approval of the $70 million 50 Plus 1 Sports deal. This move aims to demonstrate Saint Augustine’s University’s financial stability to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in February.

Since our founding, HCF mission work has advocated for over a decade and will continue to advocate for our nation historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and minority-serving institutions (MSIs). Our nation HBCUs must push on to provide high-quality education and bright futures for the diverse student population’s they serve. We join the Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) community in urging the NC Attorney General Office and Governors Office in expediently approving the $70 million 50 Plus 1 Sports deal that plays a paramount role in SAU’s financial stability and long-term sustainability in higher education and in the HBCU space.
