Today, HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) Founder, President and CEO Demetrius Johnson Jr. issued the following statement in response to the deadly shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, TN:
“HCF is heartbroken by the tragic shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, that left six people dead. This shooting marked the 129th mass shooting in America this year; enough is enough. We stand in solidity to call on Congress and the Biden Administration to swiftly enact comprehensive gun reform that will bring safety and justice to American people in public places. Gun reform in this nation will be a compassionate relief for all families and loved ones impacted by gun violence. We extend our hearts and thoughts to all those impacted by this shooting. Dr. King once said, “For through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can’t murder murder. Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can’t establish truth. Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can’t murder hate through violence. Darkness cannot put out darkness; only light can do that.””
