It is with deep sorrow that we join the nation in mourning the passing of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr., a towering figure in the civil rights movement and a lifelong advocate for justice, equality, and opportunity. Rev. Jackson dedicated more than six decades of his life to uplifting marginalized communities, championing voting rights, economic justice, and human dignity, and standing firmly for the values that have shaped our nation’s progress.
As a close ally of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and trailblazer in the fight for civil rights, Rev. Jackson’s work opened doors for countless individuals and institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). His vision, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice inspired generations of leaders and activists.
We honor his legacy and the profound impact he had on American history. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his extraordinary service. May we all continue to uphold the principles he championed and carry forward the work toward equity and opportunity for all. “Everyone is somebody,” as Rev. Jesse Jackson often reminded us!
