
The Martin University Board of Trustees recently announced that President Dr. Sean L. Huddleston will step down from his role as president effective November 28, 2025, marking the conclusion of a transformative chapter in the institution’s history. Martin University is Indiana’s only predominantly black institution (PBI).
During his time as president, Huddleston worked to build partnerships with employers to align the school’s academic programs with job and career through its workforce initiative. In 2023, the HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) recognized Huddleston as one of The Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders.
HCF Founder, President and CEO, Demetrius Johnson, Jr. commended Dr. Huddleston for his exceptional leadership and significant contributions to Martin University.
“We thank Dr. Huddleston for his leadership and are grateful for his contributions to Martin University. His dedication and commitment have positively impacted the university community, and his legacy will continue to inspire generation of students, faculty, and staff,” said Johnson.
“Dr. Huddleston leaves Martin University well-positioned to serve as a catalyst for the future—empowering both the surrounding communities and the students it serves. The legacy of Founder Boniface Hardin lives on through the impactful work being carried forward, and we are confident that this momentum will continue. We extend our best wishes to Dr. Huddleston in his future endeavors and offer our support and blessings to the next leadership of Martin University.,” Johnson continued.
The University announced that details about interim leadership and the national search process for Martin University’s next president will be shared in the coming weeks.
Dr. Huddleston departs Martin University with the highest regard from the Board of Trustees and the entire campus community. His vision, passion, and leadership have left an indelible mark, and his legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.
