Shorter College Announces Investiture of 46th President, Dr. Jeffery Norfleet II

Dr. Jeffery Norfleet II, 46th President of Shorter College

In September 2024, Shorter College, the only private two-year historically Black college and university in the nation, announced the appointment of Dr. Jeffery Norfleet II as the 46th President.

Dr. Norfleet succeeds Dr. O. Jerome Green, the 45th President, who unexpectedly passed away in April 2024. Before assuming the role of interim president, Dr. Norfleet held the position of provost and vice president.

With 14 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Norfleet holds a Bachelor of Science in Humanities and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee State University. He earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Dr. Norfleet told THV11, “It’s good pressure. It’s almost like good trouble, so I’m excited about it. We have a lot of moving parts. There’s a lot of things that President Green had already put in place, such as our technology hub. We’re looking to add new academic programs, we’re looking to grow enrollment, we’re looking to support the state. It’s a lot of moving parts, but I’m excited about the pressure that’s being added to me at this time.”

The College has announced the investiture of Dr. Jeffery Norfleet II, scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025. More details and a formal invitation will be provided closer to the event.

Demetrius Johnson Jr., the founder, President and CEO of HCF, congratulated President Norfleet on his appointment as the 46th President of Shorter College.

“It is with great honor that we congratulate Dr. Jeffery Norfleet II on his appointment as the 46th President of Shorter College. As a pillar of the Little Rock community and the nation, Shorter College proudly holds the distinction of being the only private two-year historically Black community college (HBCC) in the country. Dr. Norfleet’s unwavering leadership will undoubtedly propel the legacy of Shorter College and continue the remarkable journey of Dr. O. Jerome Green. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Norfleet and the entire Shorter College community, wishing immense success and pledging our unwavering support. I look forward to collaborating with President Norfleet to enhance HCF’s support for Shorter College,” said Johnson.

Shorter College is a private, faith-based, two-year liberal arts college located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Founded in 1886 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Shorter College is one of the nation’s 101 HBCU, and the only private, two-year HBCC in the nation.
