HCF President Demetrius Johnson Jr.’s Statement on the Fordyce, Arkansas Mass Shooting

ARKANSAS – Friday morning (June 21), a shooter opened fire at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, that left four people dead and ten wounded, including the suspect and two law enforcement officers, according to Arkansas State Police.

“We at HCF are deeply heartbroken by yesterday’s mass shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, that killed four people and injured ten. We say the names of Shirley Taylor, 62; Callie Weems, 23; Roy Sturgis, 50; and Ellen Shrum, 81. Our world, our community, has been jolted by the loss of four people to a senseless act of gun violence and yet by another mass shooting, most recently on Juneteenth. I can’t begin to imagine how terrifying this incident was and the grief caused by this horrible tragedy. Our prayers are with the families of those impacted, the city of Fordyce, and the entire state of Arkansas. We must continue to stand together to address gun violence in this country. And we continue to call on government officials to enact gun reform that will be safe for American people in public places. I pray that God continues to hold America in his hands. God bless America.”
