“Giving is not just making a donation, it’s about making a difference.” – Kathy Calvin
Our Goal
#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations, like HCF, to transform their communities and the world. Many students, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) are facing new financial challenges due to the pandemic. Scholarship support is critical at a time like this.
We have identified several scholarship funds and initiative programs that our donors can assist with in reaching its fundraising goal to continue benefiting students and our partners.
Help HCF Support and Uplift Students, HBCUs, and MSIs during this critical time.
Our goal is to reach $50,000!

Why should you give to HCF during GivingTuesday?
- Since the coronavirus, students are negatively impacted by the crisis and are at risk of not being able to continue their educational efforts due to financial need.
- Our HBCUs are at risk and negatively impacted by the sudden transition to eliminating face-to-face instruction and moving to online instruction.
- The lack of technology for students and HBCUs, for their students ability to ensure online classroom connectivity is successful. Such as providing laptop and internet ability.
- The cost of managing online classes for smaller HBCUs. This will negativity impact the operational budgets in the forthcoming academic semesters.
- Help support HBCUs who may face revenue loss from several sources due to elimination of face-to-face instruction.
- To ensure that HCF continues to have the necessary resources to do its essential work and advocacy supporting students, HBCUs, and MSIs during this global crisis and in the near future.

Annual HBCU Football and Recruitment Tour
The Annual HBCU Football and Recruitment Tour supports historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) football classics and is joined by the Division of College Recruitment and Scholarships on specific dates to assist with recruiting to HBCUs and provide scholarships to students. The Annual HBCU Football and Recruitment Tour is one of the biggest initiative program at HCF. With your donation, this initiative can provide more scholarships to recruit deserving students to HBCUs to accomplish their desired educational goals.
The Brenda G. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund
In memory of Brenda G. Johnson, the mother of Demetrius Johnson, Jr., President & CEO, the organization has created the Brenda G. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund to help students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). She passed away in Chicago, Illinois on May 9, 2020, at the age of 64. Although Brenda never attended college, she was a huge support of her son, Demetrius, who attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), and of the HBCU Campaign Fund. She was born and raised in Slaughter, Mississippi, and later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for United Airlines for 20 plus years. Our goal is to raised $20,000 in order to start awarding deserving students in financial need.
Campus Student Ambassador Program
HCF’s Campus Student Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for students at accredited HBCUs and MSIs, who exemplify dedication in serving and representing their college campuses and HCF. Campus Student Ambassadors serves as representatives of HCF and perform duties at various campus and community events. Campus Student Ambassadors will engage in HBCU Pride on and off campus, participated in mentoring programs, recruitment initiatives, and leadership events. Your donation will help support our Campus Student Ambassador Program through various components that invest in students who are participants.
